WHFPC
The West Haven Food Policy Councils (WHFPC) brings together stakeholders from diverse food-related sectors to examine how the food system is operating and to develop recommendations on how to reduce the gap between food providers and those with food insecurity.
This is a grassroots effort with the goals of educating officials, the public, shaping policy, improving coordination between existing programs and starting new programs.

Mission & Vision
MISSION
The Food Policy Council, an alliance of educators, businesses, agencies, community members, non-profit organizations, and municipal leaders, represents the food system with the goal of informing people with food insecurity of the available food channels to alleviate hunger and reduce the gap between distribution and need. The council represents and gives voice to the citizens needed for a shared equitable, accessible and resilient local food system.
VISION
West Haven Food Policy Council is a collaborative effort of non-profit agencies, clergy organizations and city supported departments to identify issues, strategize solutions, overcome barriers and support each other in order to reduce West Haven’s food insecurity gap.
The goals of the West Haven Food Policy Councils are to:
- Examine the function and operation of our local food system, and to provide recommendations and guidance for improvements that relate to food insecurity.
- Educate the public about food, nutrition, expiration dates to reduce waste and where to access food in our community.
- Find resources needed to maintain and economically enhance our local food supply to optimize access to local, nutritious food to the individuals who live in West Haven.
- Provide access to food and nutritional education programs.
